AVG AntiVirus 2017

AVG Technologies has announced the release of AVG AntiVirus 2017. AVG AntiVirus continues to be a great anti-virus program. However, while we really like their basic personal and business anti-virus products, you can skip past the rest of their new product lineup. If you already have AVG Anti-Virus 2016 or earlier, the application will not update to the new version on its own. However, users with an existing license can still upgrade for free as long as their existing license is still active.

If you need help installing, give us a call at 612-825-0999 or check out our installation tips below to avoid purchasing or installing additional (and unnecessary) products.

Basic is Best
Whether you're downloading AVG AntiVirus for the first time, or following upgrade prompts to the newest version, you ALWAYS want to choose the Basic Protection option.

Remember
Do not install any AVG extras such as the AVG Toolbar, Secure Search, Firewall, etc.

If AVG pops up in the corner to prompt you to speed up your computer, update your drivers, analyze your computer for performance problems, or something similar, click the X to close it. You never want to do these.

If AVG prompts you with an AVG Safeguard update, decline it. These are add-ons that you don't want or need, in our opinion.

Upgrading an Existing Version
If you install a version upgrade, be sure to pick Basic Protection. If you pick any other option, you'll get a 30 day trial version and then be asked to pay. Below are the prompts and what you want to select from the AVG 2016 update.

Important: Be sure you actually use/own the product any pop-up is referring to. If you're using Bitdefender for your anti-virus application, you don't want to follow the prompts for an AVG update. In that case, the pop-up is probably some sort of malware or advertisement.

Prompt: Your AVG AntiVirus is outdated
Action: Click "Update now".
Action: Click Yes
Action: Accept License
Prompt: Basic or Advanced
Action: Choose Basic Protection
Action: Click Next and the installation should begin
Action: Click Continue when prompted
Prompt: Restart your computer to finish installation
Action: Restart your computer
